Signal Box

The mechanical signal box at Ashbury was taken out of use under Swindon MAS Stage 1, 12 November 1966[1].

Ground Frame

The crossovers remained controlled from Ashbury Ground Frame at the time of Swindon MAS Stage 1, released from Uffington SB.

The up siding was controlled from a new ground frame, Ashbury Up Siding Ground Frame, installed at Swindon MAS Stage 1 and released from Uffington SB.

The protecting signals were semi-automatic, UM.71 and DM.70.

Level Crossing

The level crossing was temporarily closed at the introduction of Swindon MAS Stage 1, pending conversion to AHB[1].

The AHBs were commissioned by March 1968 (S.2546).

Closure

The crossing was closed in May 1977 in connection with the raising of the line speed at the time of the introduction of the HST as described in the WON item below and in signalling notice 31/W.2736.
