There have been two DM.72 signals in the lifetime of Swindon Panel.
Origin
DM.72 was originally a 3-aspect automatic signal commissioned at Swindon MAS Stage 1 on 14 November 1966[1]. At that stage it was supervised by Highworth Junction SB.
Supervision passed to Swindon Panel under Swindon MAS Stage 5 on 3rd March 1968.

Alterations in connection with Reversible Signalling
From 6 March 1977 the signal was mounted on a right-hand cantilever, in readiness for the future conversion to controlled (SN.20) and installation of SN.620.
The reversible signalling was brought into use in 1981 [2].
Conversion to Controlled
This number became disused when the signal was converted to a controlled signal, SN.20, when Bourton Interlocking was commissioned on 1/10/77, as described in the following WON entry:
Reincarnation
A new 4-aspect signal, numbered DM.72 was installed later, in connection with the South Marston commissioning.
This was planned to be brought into use on 7 February 2000, as described in GWS.15, but, due to 'construction difficulties' the work did not take place.
It was later planned to be brought into use on 11 February 2002, as described in GWS.27:
