Back to Control Functions.
Origin
SN.998 came into use as a controlled signal, previously automatic DM.73, at 0645 on Sunday 11 June 2000, in connection with the installation of the connection to South Marston Euroterminal.
The signal was provided to protect new crossover points (311) that had been installed as part of the aborted 2000 South Marston scheme. The points were installed but not commissioned until February 2002, so a controlled signal was needed to protect the crossovers in the meantime.
Abolition
The signal was removed when the South Marston connections and signalling alterations were finally brought into use on 11 February 2002, after only 20 months in use.
