Originally all the diverging routes from this signal were approach released. In May 1988, the signals in rear of SN.59 ([[UM.79]] and [[SN.53]] were given the capability to flash double yellow and single yellow respectively when SN.59 was cleared towards Platform 3 or Platform 1.

Movement onto gantry

The signal was moved back from its original position, which was very close to the points at Swindon West, to a position near the connection to the Down Engineer's Sidings (near what is now the STEAM Museum) in August 1976. It was reinstated on a gantry (in preparation for the installation of SN.659):

Junction Controls

Originally all the diverging routes from this signal were approach released. In May 1988, the signals in rear of SN.59 (UM.79 and SN.53 were given the capability to flash double yellow and single yellow respectively when SN.59 was cleared towards Platform 3 or Platform 1.
