This signal was newly installed in connection with the South Marston connection described in GWS.15 and GWS.27.

The signal was then planned to be brought into use on 18 January 2002, as described in GWS.27. (Unlike the rest of the signals involved in the South Marston commissioning, SN.897 was not planned to be installed at the earlier stage in 2000 described in GWS.15).
