Origin
UM.71 was a semi-automatic signal commissioned at Swindon MAS Stage 1 on 14 November 1966[1]. At that stage it was supervised by Uffington SB.
It was the protecting signal for Ashbury Level Crossing and Ground Frame on the Up Main.
Controlled passed to Swindon Panel under Swindon MAS Stage 5 on 3rd March 1968.
Converstion to Controlled
This signal was planned to be converted to a controlled signal (SN.85) (from a semi-automatic) on 2 August 1970:
But the work did not take place as planned:
and the signal was actually converted to SN.85 on 6 September of that year.
Conversion back to Automatic
Latterly the signal was converted back from SN.85 to an automatic.
