UM.71 was the protecting signal for Ashbury Level Crossing on the Up Main.
This signal was planned to be converted to a controlled signal (SN.85) (from a semi-automatic) on 2 August 1970:
But the work did not take place as planned:
and the signal was actually converted to SN.85 on 6 September of that year.
Latterly the signal was converted back to an automatic.
