SN.81 became a controlled signal, previously [[UM.75]] at 0645 on Sudnay 11 June 2000, in connection with the installation of the connection to South Marston Euroterminal.

This signal was planned to be brought into use (converted from an automatic signal, [[UM.75]]), on 7 February 2000, as described in [[GWS.15]], but, due to 'construction difficulties' the work did not take place.

It was later converted at 0645 on Sunday 11 June 2000, although without its route towards the Down Main (reversible).

The signal ATP loop was published as disconnected for two weeks from 04.50 on Monday 14 January 2002. (A ironic entry considering how many ATP loops were out of use for months or years!)

The route towards the Down Main (reversible) via 311 points was planned to be brought into use on 18 February 2002, as described in [[GWS.27]]:
