Back to list of Ground Frames

The ground frame is off the end of the up platform at Kemble and controls access to a siding, the remains of the former Cirencester branch platform.

1. FPL for points 2A - Key B
2. Points Up Main to Siding - Key B, 1
3. Slot for Signals SN290 SN291 - 1, 2, put back 1

The ground frame slots Swindon's signals SN.290, from the single line towards the siding, and SN.291 from the siding towards the single line. SN.291 reads all the way to SN.157 at Swindon Loco Yard.

The frame was planned to be brought into use on 30 June 1968, under Stage 7 of the MAS scheme[2], and is extant.

Documents

The locking particulars sheets betray the never-installed SN.151, which was to be an up starting signal from the down platform, as Kemble was to be a passing place on the single line Swindon - Kemble - Sapperton. Luckily, the Kemble-Sapperton section was never singled.
