There have been two DM.72 signals in the lifetime of Swindon Panel.

From 6 March 1977 the signal was mounted on a right-hand cantilever, in readiness for the future conversion to controlled ([[SN.20]]) and installation of [[SN.620]].

A new 4-aspect signal, numbered [[DM.72]] was installed later, in connection with the [[South Marston]] commissioning.

This was planned to be brought into use on 7 February 2000, as described in [[GWS.15]], but, due to 'construction difficulties' the work did not take place.

There have been two DM.72 signals in the lifetime of Swindon Panel.

Origin

DM.72 was originally a 3-aspect automatic signal commissioned at Swindon MAS Stage 1 on 14 November 1966[1]. At that stage it was supervised by Highworth Junction SB.

Supervision passed to Swindon Panel under Swindon MAS Stage 5 on 3rd March 1968.

Alterations in connection with Reversible Signalling

From 6 March 1977 the signal was mounted on a right-hand cantilever, in readiness for the future conversion to controlled (SN.20) and installation of SN.620.

The reversible signalling was brought into use in 1981 [2].

Conversion to Controlled

This number became disused when the signal was converted to a controlled signal, SN.20, when Bourton Interlocking was commissioned on 1/10/77, as described in the following WON entry:

Reincarnation

A new 4-aspect signal, numbered DM.72 was installed later, in connection with the South Marston commissioning.

This was planned to be brought into use on 7 February 2000, as described in GWS.15, but, due to 'construction difficulties' the work did not take place.
