Description

There have been two SN.61s in the lifetime of Swindon Panel, both serving roughly the same purpose.

The signal applies to moves on the Up Goods / Up Relief approaching Swindon West.

Originally the line was the Up Goods, and the signal had no overlap, and was fairly close to Swindon West. It protected a set of traps (385) and had routes to the Up Passenger Line (platform 1), Number 2 Bay Platform, the Down Passenger Line (platform 3) and the Down Main (up direction).

Alterations in Connection with the removal of 353 points

The route towards the Up Main was removed when 353 points were removed in November 1992.

Alterations in Connection with the Passengerisation of the West Loop

The signals was moved some distance back from its original position coincident with the passengerisation of the line from 21.50 on Saturday 5 August 2006, in order to provide an overlap clear of the fittings at Swindon West. 385 trap points were removed. The signal's junction indications were given, thereafter, by position light junction indicators instead of theatre indications.
